POST VACCINATION PRECAUTIONS

The world is in the midst of Covid 19 Pandemic. As WHO and partners work together on the response – tracking the pandemic, advising on critical interventions, distributing vital medical supplies to those in need—they are racing to develop and deploy safe and effective vaccines.

Vaccines save millions of lives each year. Vaccines work by training and preparing the body’s natural defenses, ‘the immune system’ to recognize and fight off the viruses and bacteria they target. After vaccination, if the body is later exposed to those diseases, causing germs, the body is immediately ready to destroy them, preventing illness.

Approved Covid-19 vaccines provide a high degree of protection against getting seriously ill and dying from the disease, although no vaccine is 100% protective. Hence even after getting vaccinated, we must take all the precautions.

Covid-19 vaccines will prevent serious illness and death, we still don’t know the extend to which it keeps you from being infected and passing the virus on to the others, breakthrough infections are occurring in fully vaccinated people though the vaccines are highly effective. It might feel like a bad cold or carry no symptoms at all.

What to do if you are exposed to Covid-19 after being fully vaccinated:

·         Get tested if you develop cold-like symptoms.

If you develop a cough, congestion, or a loss of taste and smell after a known exposure, you should get tested regardless of your vaccination status.

·         If you don’t have symptoms, many experts say you are probably in the clear.

The CDS recommends vaccinated people get tasted or quarantine only if they have symptoms of Covid-19. If you are symptom-free after exposure, then you can relax. But taking precautions is a very must.

·         Quarantine if you feel sick or test positive for Covid. Stay away from people if you are not feeling well. Vaccinated people who get Covid may be less contagious than unvaccinated infected people.

Some DO’s and DONT’s

o   Drink a lot of water and stay hydrated.

o   Eat well balanced diet.

o   Get well sleep.

o   Do some light exercise and yoga which is very important.

o   Apply clean, cool, and wet cloths over the arm after vaccination.

o   Avoid alcohol and tobacco

o   Avoid strenuous physical activity for at least 2-3 days post vaccinations.

o   Do not think you are completely immune to Covid-19 after vaccination.

Even if you are vaccinated and not having any symptoms, you must continue with appropriate behavior to slow and eventually stop the spread of the virus and make yourself and your family safe by taking these very simple precautions:

-          Cover any cough or sneeze in your bent elbow.

-          When indoors with others, ensure good ventilation, such as by opening the windows.

-           GET VACCINATED AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE.

Vaccines are available for free by Government, now it's our duty to protect ourselves and everyone around.
