Uninterrupted power @Rs 398/month only

Solar is a renewable form of energy which can be harnessed and used effectively. In fact solar can solve the current problems of global warming, power shortage, etc. But main challenges to its implementation are high prices of solar equipments and its storage. Though nowadays better batteries made of nanomaterials are available in market but they are costly.

Here in this blog we have tried to introduce a solar calculator that can provide us a rough idea about the cost of installing a solar power plant in our societies or roof-tops.

At last we have also provided a solution i.e. uninterrupted solar power @Rs 398/month applying MNRE scheme of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, GoI.

Below is a informal discussion going in an engineering classroom. Later the discussion is joined by two

renowned professors who are experts in the field of renewable energy.

RAJ- Electricity prices are rising very fast brother!

Adi- Yeah..that's true. Earlier electricity bills rarely exceeded Rs. 600 but now they even tend to be around Rs 1200.But I have hardly added any electrical equipments or appliances to my house.

Preet-That’s true in my case too.

Raj- Can anyone suggest a solution to this.

Preet- I have heard of solar energy as an alternative to frequent power cuts that we all face everyday. At

times its really irritating as sometimes lights go off for about 5 hours ..that too during hot summer days.

Raj-Solar is very costly…

Rup-Yeah..I do agree with Raj

Ranjan-Hey guys !! Have you all heard of solar calculator launched by Ministry Of renewable energy

department.

Rup- Yeah !!But what's the big deal about it?

Aditi- They are providing us a method to plan our investment in solar energy on both short term and

long term basis.

Raj-But isn’t that going to be costly.

Indrajit- No no!!Not at all.

Aditi-You can get your house running all day @398/month only!!

Raj- Are you serious Aditi!!

Aditi- Absolutely Raj!!Just go to the website of MINISTRY OF RENEWBLE ENERGY and check it out!!

Muskan - Suppose you have a budget of Rs. 46923 and you want to install a solar grid in your rooftop or in your society then as per MNRE government scheme YOU would get a subsidy of 40% i.e final cost would amount to Rs. 28,154. If you take a loan from a bank @8 % interest for 8 years then you need to pay only Rs. 398/month i.e. only one third of your current electricity bill.

Aditi-By this method you can save lots of trees annually too like installing the solar grid as Muskan said in your home is equivalent to planting around 49 teak trees in your entire lifetime.

Raj-That’s a good solution actually. I never knew about the MNRE scheme our government is providing.

George-That amount to mitigation of 31 tones of Carbon dioxide annually.

Anubhab-That means we can save our planet from global warming too by this small initiative.

Prof AKC- Yeah!!Absolutely! You can implement what you learnt in your books. All of us must take small steps to save our planet only then we can protect our biodiversity and rich heritage.

George-Yes Sir

Shyam- In the above calculation, how many hours of sunshine we have taken into account? Coz there

can be rainfall during the day too…

Aditya-We took only 5.5 hrs. of sunshine so even if rainfall or storm take place , it wouldn’t affect your

daily production of electricity much.

Rup-That’s an effective solution then.

Prof AKC-Can anyone guess what can be the feasible power generation capacity of the plant?

Rup-0.2 KW/day

Raval- 1Wh/day

Aditi- Guys!! It has been approximated to around 5KWh/day.

Raval-That’s a really brilliant idea then

Aditi- Yeah! We can light up 2 houses if they use it judiciously.

Parneet-I Hope in coming days we can come up with even a better solution of more effective solar

energy capturing and storage methods

Prof KNB- Yeah..we are still working on cheaper and better batteries that can store energy effectively

at a cheap price. Can anyone guess what these batteries may be made up of?

Anuska- Nanomaterials sir

Prof KNB-Correct…they are made up of nanomaterials. mainly silicon nanomaterials.

Aditi- In this case of rooftop solar grid we can either install batteries to store the energy in order to use it later or connect it to a govt. grid and sell energy to the govt at good prices.

Raval- I will then  ask daddy to install one today.

Aditi- Guys!! Do check this calculator out.

The solar calculator

Taking initial budget as Rs 46923

After subsidy, cost would come down to Rs. 28154.

If you take a loan from bank @8% interest per annum for 8 years you need to pay only Rs. 398/month.
